Last week, Class 6 welcomed an amazing visitor as part of our ‘Freedom’ project. Ellen Craft, an American slave from the 19th century, came to tell us the incredible true story of her life. We heard about the terrible conditions in which slaves lived and found out more about what it actually meant to be a slave in those days. Ellen Craft later married another slave, William, and together they made a bold and daring escape to freedom. It was fascinating to hear her story and we were able to ask lots of questions to learn more. One pupil commented, ‘The afternoon was so much fun. Ellen made me laugh and I learnt so much!’.
We would like to thank the Museum of London for providing us with this fantastic experience and we would also like to thank Julie, the actress, who really brought Ellen Craft’s story to life.
