This week, we have been celebrating Enterprise Week!

This is a week when each class becomes a company that creates a product and persuades the other classes to buy them! As a class, we love reading but have all struggled when it comes to remembering which page we were reading. A few of us mentioned that we would like bookmarks, so we decided that we should create some fun and exciting ones! Our teacher helped us to find a product that looked eye-catching and fun to make. We had to decide which animals we would offer to our customers and we did this through a vote – we decided on a lion, snake and bunny.

Once we had decided what to make, we had to create a company name. This required lots of discussion and ideas, based on some of the companies that we already know. We discussed that restaurants will often use their best selling food within their name, and this could be a useful selling point. We also designed our own company logo, which focused on our bookmarks and company name. We had some fantastic ideas, that used lots of creativity! Here are just a few!

Our next task was to create an advert! To do this, we watched an advert that Lego had made. We discussed why it was so effective, thinking about the colours, the storyline and the fact that it used humour. In our English books, we annotated the video and wrote about what we liked about it and then thought about how we could use this in our own advert. We knew that we were making products for children, so we they were are target audience! We decided that we should try to include our class topic within our advert somewhere, to make sure that there were a storyline. We shared thoughts and suggestions, and wrote the script as a class and we all felt happy and confident with our idea! We then spent some time in the library, working meticulously to make sure that our advert was as perfect as possible. We all behaved brilliantly and supported one another during our fantastic acting. You can watch all of our adverts here: https://www.stvincentsprimary.org.uk/news/enterprise-week-adverts-3/. We hope that you love them as much as we did!

Once we had seen what each class had to offer, we placed our orders and saw our list grow! We had around 110 orders in total! We had to get to work. We practiced our folding skills, as it could be quite tricky and fiddly at times. On Thursday, we spent the day working well with one another, and ensuring to help each other where necessary. We took our time to carefully fold our origami paper correctly, and then cut out smaller details for each animal. It was quite tough as some of the details were quite small! Especially the snake eyes! We were working against the clock to make sure that all of our customers would be happy with their final product.

Throughout the week, we have also been learning about money. We learnt about the way in which money has changed, especially in recent years. We know that money is often kept in a bank, to keep it safe. We tested our knowledge on different coins and notes, and were able to identify these well. We have also worked to organise and arrange coins based on their value, and have used greater than and less than symbols to compare them. We even spoke about what profit means!

Today we were able to reflect on our week and think about our learning powers. We decided that we had been very creative this week, and had also been fantastic at working as a team. We knew that we had been resilient when we found things hard, and we had also been resourceful and reciprocal in our learning. On the last afternoon of our first half term in Year 2, we also wrote a piece of reflective writing all about what we think went well this Enterprise Week! Lots of us have loved this time to work together, and to help one another. We hope to use our profit to enhance our book corner even more!

For anyone that would like to learn how to make our products, this is the video that inspired us:
