Today EqualiTeach delivered a workshop designed to strengthen Year 5’s critical thinking skills. One of our favourite activities was when we had to choose six guests to invite to an imaginary dinner party and share reasons for our choices with the whole class, before the true identities of the guests were revealed and any misconceptions and assumptions were unpicked. Did you know that the singer Rita Ora was a refugee from Kosovo, who fled to the UK as a child?
The workshop equipped us with an understanding of what stereotyping means and the dangers of stereotyping. We also had an opportunity to consider our opinions, where we get our information from and how our opinions are formed. This helped us to recognise that information in the media, online, or from family and friends can sometimes be biased or false. Overall, the workshop has helped us to think critically about the information we receive, build resilience to approaches from negative groups and reject prejudice and hate.
Thank you EqualiTeach for a fantastic, informative morning!
