To enhance our ‘People Who Help Us’ topic, Reception visited Euston Fire Station this morning. We met some firefighters who showed us around the fire station and talked to us all about their important job as a firefighter.
First of all, we looked at the firefighters uniform and they showed us how quickly they have to put their uniform on and get ready for an emergency. We looked at their yellow helmets and a protective head mask that the firefighters have to wear to help them breathe when they have to go into the fire. We tried on the yellow helmets, they were very heavy!
After that we got to look at the fire engine and all of the special tools and equipment inside. We saw the long hoses that the firefighters use to put out the fires.
The firefighters then talked to use about some of the other jobs they have to do such as helping someone who might be trapped inside a car. We got to see one of their special tools that helps cut through the car metal to help someone get out. We watched the firefighters cut off a car door with their special tool!
Finally, we went inside to see where the firefighters eat their meals and got to see some of the firefighters slide down the pole!
What a fantastic experience we had this morning, it really did bring all of our learning in class to life!

We had the most amazing time at the firestation today! The firefighters are so very brave!! Our favourite parts were the firefighters showing us their hose and trying on their helmets!!
I loved our trip to the fire station. We had lots of fun and gained first hand experience on how the fire fighters put out fires. I enjoyed the fire fighters going down the pole. The best part was when fire fighters showed us a very nice way, on how to put the uniform on emergency call.
You are very lucky to be able to visit the fire station! What a good trip!
I loved trying on the helmet and holding the hose. The man going down the pole was very fast. I liked singing to the firefighters.
I loved the bit when the firemen cut off the door.
It was so much fun when the firemen went down the pole. I had such a great time. I also loved the bit when the firemen cut the glass.
Firemen are very helpful, they help us!
