Today Year 1 were lucky enough to have Martin from Mini First aid come in and tell us all about what first aid is and how to treat some simple accidents.
We had a poor patient, Teddy, who cut his knee at lunchtime. We learnt how to put a pad on to stop the bleeding, and then how to put a band aid properly (making sure we don’t touch the white pad part). We then had a go on each other. Poor Ted then fell over and bumped his head, and so we learnt the two important questions we need to ask someone who hurt their head- do you feel sick? Do you feel dizzy? We can then apply an ice pack! Again we got to practice on each other. Next we had a conversation about the special number we need to call if there is an emergency. Everyone knew it was 999! We practiced what to say and even got to practice dialling the number on a phone. We talked about the importance of knowing our address in case there is an emergency. Lastly we listened to a story about first aid.
Thank you so much to Martin for coming out and teaching Year 1 all about first aid!
