Today is the feast day of St. Vincent De Paul, who is very special to our school.

We started the day with a beautiful whole school Mass at St. James’s Church celebrated by Father Philip, where we were joined by our parents and relatives. It was wonderful to have our school family together again.

The mass was also an opportunity to give thanks to Father Christopher who has now retired. We think he deserves this time of rest but we will miss him greatly.   Thank you for your many years of support and service.

During Mass we reflected on the life of St. Vincent de Paul  and, building on the ideas from our assembly yesterday, we will now think of how we can follow in the footsteps of St. Vincent De Paul and continue his teachings.

  • How have you been inspired by St. Vincent De Paul?

  • How can you serve others this week, especially the poor?

Please find below a special message that Father Christopher has asked us to share with you all:

“Saint Vincent de Paul’s Day 2022 will always occupy a special place in my memory as it was the occasion which marked my  retirement from my responsibility for Saint Vincent’s School which was among the happiest aspects of my years as Parish Priest at Spanish Place. It was lovely to share in such a joyful Mass and I am so very grateful for all the kindness that has been shown to me over the years and especially in the very generous gift which I received it at the end of the Mass. As I tried to say then the links between school and parish are so valuable and in a confused and unhappy world Saint Vincent’s and Saint James’s offer a much-needed security and stability to our young people. I was especially moved by the messages that the children had prepared for me and |I thank them and all of you from the bottom of my heart. I wish God’s blessing and the prayers of the Mother of Jesus and Saint Vincent on your families.

Christopher Colven”

I have been inspired by St Vincent de Paul as he has helped so many people in different ways and he has taught us that we should all help one another even if they are a stranger since he went round the world helping different children. It inspired me to help local food banks and charities for the people who are poor, homeless or very vunrable.St vincent de paul was also known for his compassion, humility, and generosity to others which also inspired me to be generous to others and help everyone.

I can serve others this week, especially the poor by giving lots and lots of food to the local food bank. Also I can give money to the poor when I am walking home or to school and help them.

  4. Thank you Father Christopher for devoting so much time into helping our community and we hope you have a nice retirement and hope to see you at mass.
We can follow in the footsteps of St Vincent de Paul by always putting others before ourselves and helping those around us. We should always think not of what is easiest but what is right and follow in his footsteps.

Thank you Father Christopher for helping our community , we were so grateful that we had you as our priest. Congratulation on your retirement.
We can follow the footsteps of St. Vincent de Paul by helping charities and by not judging about others. We should all tell everyone about how to follow in the footsteps of St. Vincent de Paul.
