In Geography we have been learning about the equator. We learnt that it is an imaginary line around the Earth and it separates the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. We looked at a map of the world and identified its 7 continents.
We are able to identify the continents the equator passes through – South America, Africa and Asia. Countries close to the equator do not get noticeable seasons unlike the United Kingdom because the sun stays directly overhead a lot of the time so they get an even temperature.
We had a lot of fun learning about the equator. We made a giant map of the world and used string to make the equator. We also learnt that Antarctica is the continent furthest away from the equator so the weather is very cold!
Well done Year 1! This is very interesting.
