In Religious Education, we have been thinking about treasures and what it means to treasure something. We first thought about the things that we treasure, from our friends and family, to the games that we play and different teddies and toys that are special or precious to us – just like treasure!
We have looked back at the Creation Story and thought about the fact that God created the world and treasures it greatly. We read a poem called The World is a Treasure, which is based on Genesis, and thought about which part of God’s creation we are most thankful for, from the birds and the animals, to the plants and the flowers. We also spoke about the fact that we have a duty to look after and care for the world, as part of God’s creation.
On Monday, we went outside on the roof and spent some time quietly reflecting on the things that we could see and hear, that made us grateful for God’s treasure. We then read a number of statements which allowed us to explore God’s treasures and think about the ways in which we can show respect for the world. We knew that should switch things off once we have used them, and think about others, and share the things that we own. We then put these statements into a little treasure box to show that they were important and that we should remember them. Any scenarios that did not show respect for the world, it’s people and animals, we scrunched up as we thought that they were ‘rubbish’ rather than treasure.
Which of God’s treasures are you most grateful for?
I think this was a wonderland lesson, I loved it!
