We are thrilled to inform you that, having been successful in our bid for funding for scooter storage, we have now been granted planning permission to install this outside of the school. Thank you to our local councillor, Karen Scarborough and our School Travel Plan Officer, Carla Lowe, for their support with these applications. Some background is below:
St. Vincent’s Catholic Primary School is housed within a 1930s building on a very tight space and, although we cherish the historical features of the school , there are many limitations and challenges, mainly the small hall and the fact that the playground is on the roof, limiting our recreational (sports and play) facilities and greatly reducing our storage space.
We always strive to promote the health and wellbeing of the pupils and, as well as our overall ‘Outstanding’ judgements from both Ofsted and the Diocese, we are happy to have recently been awarded Gold Healthy School Status and Gold STARS accreditation (Sustainable Travel: Active, Responsible, Safe). We also renewed our Eco Schools Green Flag.
We are particularly proud of these achievements given our inner city London location. However we are always looking to continue making improvements. The aspect of school life that would really benefit our pupils (and parents who have to carry them home!) is to have some scooters storage. This is often requested by our families but we do not have anywhere to store the scooters.
The proposed location is outside of the school, where there is a redundant space above the recess next to the pavement, as shown in the photographs below. A walkway could be installed above this void, new fencing and gates fitted leaving a space to be used for scooter storage.
Providing scooter storage will enable our children to travel to school in a safe and healthy way. Our school sits within the Marylebone Lower Emission Neighbourhood (LEN)and encouraging children to come to school by scooter rather than in cars would contribute to reducing some of the pollution levels.
