Green Team received a visit from Mr Burke, who works for the Government at DEFRA- the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. We told him all about our work to monitor and reduce air pollution and showed him the results of our latest air pollution survey. We explained that we are very worried about the amount of air pollution that we have found in the environment around the school- our results show that the amount of toxic gases has risen again, to well above the recommended E.U. safe levels. He talked to us about the work that his department are doing to reduce air pollution and explained more about the steps we can take to stop air pollution.
Why not try to put some of these into practice over the Summer holiday?
- Cycle, walk or scoot for short journeys
- Leave the car behind at home and use public transport
- Turn off your car engine while you are waiting- don’t leave your car engine ‘idling’
You could also comment on the government’s public consultation on a new Clean Air Strategy, which is open until 14 August 2018.
