This week we have been reading about the Tale of Beowulf, the famous hero from Geat who helped the Scandinavian Kings defeat the various demons and monsters whom terrorised their kingdoms. The first part of the epic described how Beowulf helped King Hrothgar defeat the monster, Grendel.
Despite various illustrations, it was difficult to visualise what Grendel looked like from the version we were reading. So we decided to define what ‘gruesome’ meant to us and illustrated our own image of Grendel. Through art we are quite literally able to paint a more vivid image of Grendel in our minds.
Some of them are particularly petrifying! We will be using the illustrations to form our character description for the rest of this week.
