Today as part of our World War 2 topic, Year 6 visited the Churchill War Rooms.
As it was Remembrance Day today, we went early so that we could take part in the act of Remembrance at the Cenotaph. We arrived at Whitehall just as we heard Big Ben strike eleven o’clock, and we took part in the two minute silence to show respect for all of the people who have sacrificed their lives in war. Then we walked to the Cenotaph but there were so many people there paying their respects that we weren’t able to see much but we joined in with some of the prayers, listened to some readings and heard the bagpipes being played.
Next it was time to have our lunch and some playtime in St. James’ Park in the gorgeous Autumn sunshine and then make our way to the Churchill War Rooms which is the historic underground bunker where we had the opportunity to discover what life would have been like for members of the British Government during the tense days and nights of the Second World War.
The museum was very interactive, with lots of things to look at, touch and listen to. In addition, we were thrilled to each have our electronic own interactive guide which gave us lots of information as well as activities as we explored the museum.
Many thanks to the SVPA for generously funding this trip for us. Thank you so much also to all of the parents who came with us today. We really appreciate your help and hope you enjoyed the trip as much as we did!
What did you learn on our trip to the Churchill War Rooms, Year 6?
This was the BEST trip I’ve ever been on!!! It was so interesting.
I enjoyed learning about Winston Churchill. We have learned so much this week.
I loved the museum a lot because I understood how people in world war 2 survived.
I loved it ! The different rooms were really interesting and we learnt a lot about Churchill.
I learned a lot of new things that were really interesting from this Trip
I enjoyed learning about Winston Churchill. We have learned about who Winston is and what he did .
I learned a lot about Churchill and i now understand why Churchill’s cabinet war rooms are hidden underground.
It was very dark in there and there was little space in each room.
And I learned that there was an accident, a warplane crushed near their refuge and the ancient president Wiston Churchill said,”I wish it had have landed nearer, so we could see if the refuge works.”
I loved it and it told me a lot of information of the Churchill War Rooms but the mannequins were quite scary!!!!!!!!!!
I enjoyed learning about Winston Churchill. We have learned about who Winston is and what he did to help people in Britain during world war II.
This was AMAZING ! I learnt a lot about what Churchills life was like when he was growing up. I also discovored that before he was president, he lived in the house next to 10 Downing Street (where he lived when he was president)
Tt was very exiting to take part in the two minute silence at the Cenotaph because I have never seen that before.
I learned so many things about WWII. We even went where all the priministers talked to each other about many things like how to attack Germany back. That was the best trip ever.
Learning more about Churchill was really fun! Also using headphones and a phone to navigate around the war rooms was interesting!ALSO WHY DO THE MANNEQUINS LOOK SO REAL???
I really enjoyed going to Churchill War Museums and learning about Winston Churchill! All the rooms were so interesting ( and I was kind of creeped out by how the mannequins looked like real people!)
