This week in Religious Education Year 1 have been learning all about the importance of change during Lent.
At the beginning of the week we looked at what the word change means – the children were able to list a range of different examples of change. They explained how when we come to earth we begin as babies and grow up, when a seed is planted it will grow into a beautiful tree or flower and how we have seasons which change throughout the year. We then linked our knowledge of change to Lent and discussed how it is a time of preparation and change. We change and looks for ways where we can act in the likeness of Jesus. We looked at a range of examples from the Bible where Jesus was being a good person and helped others, we then related these scenarios to our lives and discussed what we could do in these situations and how we could change to act like Jesus.
Today we moved on from discussing how we can change during Lent to why we change and make a new start. We looked at a range of scenarios where people were not making the best choices and thought about how they could stop and change what they are doing. We thought then about why we should make that change and recognised it is important to be kinder, to be polite, to be caring and to be friendly and that these are all characteristics which Jesus had and we should follow. The children could also explain that we should act in Jesus’ likeness to thank him for his sacrifices which we remember during this important time.
Previously we made lentern promises which show how we can make a change during Lent, today we explained why we want to make that important change in our lives!
