At the beginning of our Science unit ‘Living things and their habitats’, Year 6 built on their previous learning about grouping living things by looking at the classification system in more detail.
This week we explored how plants can be grouped and subdivided. The children enjoyed learning about the four main plants groups (Mosses, Ferns, Conifers and Flowering Plants) and using their scientific knowledge and vocabulary to group and classify plants.
Thank you to the enthusiastic children who brought in plants and leaves for us to directly classify.
The children are looking forward to next week when we will be studying micro-organisms. They are also excited about our Science trip to Queen’s College later in the term.

I am really excited to learn about microorganisms and are really enjoying our topic so far!
In science we have been learning about living things, their habitats and classification. I really liked how we will all share our ideas with each other. I have learnt a lot of things and I am enjoying this topic so far.
I really enjoy this topic and find it very interesting.
