Reception enjoyed lots of Maths activities this week!
On Monday, we had fun comparing groups.
We counted objects to some given numbers and compared the quantities. The children each picked a card with a number on it and with the tweezers they placed the fruit counters in the bowls to match the number shown on their cards. We compared who had more or less by counting the counters and looking at the number cards too.
In another activity, the children each rolled a die and built a tower as tall as the number they rolled. After we had built our tower, we compared who had more and less by looking at our friendsβ towers and counting the number of blocks each of us had. The children were all able to count and use the key vocabulary independently.
On Friday we looked at the ‘more than/less than’ relationship between counting numbers.
We used some frogs on a log to recognise which number we would have if some frogs jumped off the log or some frogs jumped on! We also compared groups of fruit that Gina the Giraffe and Mr. Monkey had in their bowls. The children counted the number of fruit pieces each animal had and then moved fruit to the bowl which had less to make two equal groups.
Well done everyone for all of your hard work this week! I am so impressed!
