This week, we have started our first sport of the year which is Tennis. Lots of us were very excited to have a go at playing such a fast paced sport.
Firstly, we played a warm up game which involved throwing up our tennis ball above our heads and then catching it before it could hit the ground. We had different challenges like throwing it up in one hand and then trying to catch with the other whilst standing on one leg and played a game to see how many claps we could do before we caught the tennis ball after throwing it up.
Our focus this week was on hitting the ball correctly with the racket. We identified that a racket has the head (which surrounds the strings), face (or called the strings) and the handle (which is where we have to hold the racket at all times). Our first task was to see how times we could keep the ball up by hitting it with the racket before it could hit the ground. To make it harder, we had to rotate our rackets so we will using the forehand and backhand techniques to keep the ball up. We finished off with a game against our partner and we had to hit our tennis ball to bounce in their hoop to score a point.
Year 4, what are you looking forward to learning about tennis this half term?
