Prayers for Home: W/C: 6th July 2020
During these unprecedented times, we know how important it is for families to find opportunities to come together and pray and reflect upon the day, the present time and times ahead.
Prayer is so beneficial to us all in different ways but we know that it strengthens the family ties and communication; helping us to heal and find peace. The children at St Vincent’s are always so considerate of others when composing their own prayers. We are always deeply proud of their spirituality and thoughtfulness. During this time, we encourage your child and family to pray, thinking about who may need their prayers and reminding them that prayer brings us closer to God. We are pleased to inform you that Ten:Ten, providers of our Collective Worship resources, are kindly making available a set of daily prayers for you to use at home. St Vincent’s will share the Weekly Prayers with you every Monday, in the hope that we can pray together.
The prayers this week help children to plan ahead and prepare for the summer holidays, something they might usually be very excited for, but perhaps a little less so this year – they might feel like they’ve already had a long holiday at home!
The word ‘holiday’ comes from ‘holy day’, when people would be allowed time off work to observe religious festivals and feast days. Today, a holiday means any time off from our usual work. These prayers consider how children’s ‘holidays’ can truly become ‘holy days’.
Each day children will be led in reflection using Psalm 34 (note that this is the Sunday Psalm from last week, rather than 5th July) and offered a suggestion for an activity to do, either this week or during the holidays. You might like to encourage children to keep a list of these activities so that they remember them.
You can find the daily prayers for this week here:
How to lead:
There is a Prayer Leader and a Reader, either or both of which can be a child.
Slide 1:
The Prayer Leader introduces the theme and invites the Reader to read from Psalm 34.
Slide 2:
Daily reflections and suggested activities on different ways that holidays can become ‘holy days’:
– Monday – Enjoy life.
– Tuesday – Praise God.
– Wednesday – Share with others.
– Thursday – Ask for help.
– Friday – Look for peace.
– Saturday – Make time for rest and relaxation.
NB. Monday has two extra introductory slides.
Whilst some of us are apart it will be wonderful to know that we are sharing this special prayer resource together. You can let us know what you think of the resource in the comments section, or even share some pictures of your special worship space using the file uploader for the attention of Mrs Avdiu.
