This week is Children’s Mental Health week. We begun our day by talking about what mental health is. We agreed that we all have mental health and talking about our feelings is important.

We discussed how we would feel if we fed our mind with negative thoughts such as, ‘I can’t do this!’ ‘I am not good.’ If we fed our minds with positive thoughts we would feel happier and believe in ourselves a lot more.

We also spoke about worries and where in our bodies we feel worry. Some of us said we can feel worry in our tummies and in our heart. We then spoke about  what we can do to help us feel less worried. We practised our breathing and thought that this made us feel calmer.

We read the story, ‘The Worrysaurus.’ We learnt that if we feel worried about lots of different things we can miss what is happening in the present moment.

This afternoon we wrote a message to ourselves on shiny stars. Our sentence began with, ‘I will try to’ We discussed how we are going to deal with difficult emotions, such as anger, frustration and sadness. Lots of wrote that we would practise rainbow breathing, count sheep if we can’t sleep, talk to an adult about our feelings and take a moment of quiet.

Well done Year 1!
