This week, we have been taking part in activities relating to Children’s Mental Health Week. This year’s theme is Growing Together, where we have been encouraging the children to consider the ways that they have grown and how they can help others to grow.
To begin this, we were inspired and uplifted by singing and dancing to S Club 7’s, ‘Reach’. After letting out all of our giggles and great dance moves, we thought about the lyrics and the fact that we should be reaching for the stars. We have spoken about having goals and the way in which goals can be more long-term, like the jobs that we would love to have when we are adults, and those that we can achieve on a daily basis. We know that goals are things that we have to work on. We thought about positive attitudes and the small steps that we take to reach our goals.
We discussed the goals that we could make around emotional growth like how to cope with different feelings and emotions. We spoke about dealing with anger or frustration if we get something wrong. We wrote our goals onto our own stars and decorated them with lots of bright colours, focusing on the positives. Today, we thought about how we can achieve our goals, using ladders to help us reach the stars. On each rung, we put a small step towards the goal that we’ve set.
From here, we thought about the ways in which we can praise and encourage each other when we see our friends taking small steps towards achieving their goals.
