This week in Religious Education, we learnt about the story of Jesus feeding the 5000.
First, we heard the story read from the Bible and discussed how Jesus shared food with a large crowd of 5000 people using just five loaves of bread and two fish. We discussed that this was one of the miracles that Jesus was able to do because He was the Son of God. Jesus saw that people were hungry and wanted to care for them.
To bring the story to life, we all baked bread together. We talked about the ingredients we need: flour, water, yeast oil and honey. We took turns to pour in and mix the ingredients together to make a dough. Next, we kneaded the dough and put it all together to make one big piece of dough. Together we talked about how Jesus wants to care for everyone, especially those who are hungry.
When the bread had risen and been baked, we talked about the importance of sharing and helping others, just like Jesus did. We shared the bread with one another and took a slice home to share with others.
It was a lovely way to connect the teachings of the Bible with a real life activity that shared Jesus’ message of kindness and community, not to mention very tasty too!
Well done Reception!
