Today we began our first ‘To the Ends of the Earth’ topic lesson in Religious Education where we focused on the Ascension.

We began by talking about the joy of Easter Sunday, when Jesus rose from the dead. The children thought carefully about how His friends, the disciples, might have felt in that moment. We also discussed a special Easter greeting often shared at this time: ‘Christ is risen!’ with the joyful response, ‘He is risen indeed, Alleluia!’

Next, we read the story of the Ascension together. The children were curious—Jesus had just come back to life, and now He was leaving again? We explored how the disciples might have felt sad or confused, but also how Jesus promised that He would always be with us. We talked about how, even though Jesus returned to heaven, He still watches over us and we can continue to speak to Him through prayer.

To help us visualise this special moment, we looked at different works of art showing the Ascension. Inspired by what we saw, we created our own paintings for our RE display. The children carefully drew Jesus rising into heaven, then painted their artwork using watercolours in bright, beautiful colours.

Well done Reception for your hard work!
