As part of our new Religious Education topic on Pentecost and the theme of Transformation, we explored the story of the Road to Emmaus from Luke 24:13 to 35. We read how, after Jesus had risen, two disciples were walking to Emmaus when a stranger joined them. He talked to them and explained the Scriptures, but they did not realise it was Jesus until he sat with them, blessed the bread, broke it and gave it to them. In that moment, their eyes were opened and they recognised him.

We talked about how their hearts had been burning as he spoke, and how this moment completely changed them. They rushed back to tell the others what had happened. It reminded us that transformation can happen when we recognise Jesus with us, especially in ordinary moments.

To show this moment of realisation, we created artwork using sunset colours and black silhouettes to represent Jesus and the two disciples at the table. We thought carefully about the colours we used to show warmth and the light of understanding. We also chose a quote to write on the front of our work to show what this story means to us.

Our finished display shows how one moment with Jesus can transform everything!

What did you take from the Scripture?
