We know that Advent is an incredibly special time. It is a time when we appreciate the love in our lives and prepare to celebrate love becoming a reality in the person of Jesus. Christians and Christmas celebrate the gift of Jesus, given by God as a sign and expression of His love.
As part of our learning, we learned about Jeremiah, a prophet that lived around a hundred years after the prophet Isaiah. We found out that Jeremiah loved his people and did not want to see them troubled or destressed, but he could also see that they were not following the ways of God and he needed to warn them about their behaviour, but also encourage them by telling them the good times would come. He told them that the Promised One, the Messiah would come and that he would belong to the family of King David. To understand this further, we read the story of how David was chosen to be king in 1 Samuel 16:1-13. After we had found and read this passage from the Bible, we hot-seated one another as different people from the story to find out why David was chosen. We explored the different thoughts, feelings and experiences of those present. Some of us had the opportunity to share our hot-seating with the rest of the class too!
Also this week, we have spoken about waiting in hope for the Lord. We read a psalm that expresses hope in the coming of the Promised One and gives encouragement to those who are waiting. We reminded ourselves of the first two Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary which also tell us of waiting in hope. We focused especially on the Visitation. We read from Luke 1:39-57 and began to understand some of the thoughts and feelings of both Mary and Elizabeth at this special time. We recreated some contemporary artwork using water colours and then reflected on our work, considering the colours and the gestures that we felt were important to include, based on the Gospel. We spoke about the feelings that we thought Elizabeth would have had, and used Scripture to reinforce and support our points of view.
For your reflection: how can we use this time of waiting purposefully?
It was a really cool activity our topic was called “The visitation” when Mary meet with her cousin Elizabeth.
This was really fun! I am super grateful for the opportunity to use watercolors and a BIG thank you to Miss Foster Adams for this amazing lesson!
