Today is Safer Internet Day! In Year 6 we explored the issue of identity, especially online identify and how the internet shapes how we think of ourselves and others.
First of all we thought about ‘What makes me, me?’ and lots of us mentioned things like; culture, ethnicity, age, finger prints, personality, beliefs and appearance. We then thought about our online identities and we realised that lots of us have changed our identity online by using filters, avatars and usernames.
Although there are lots of positive things about changing our identity online (such as helping you keep safe and being creative) we realised that sometimes we feel pressure to shape our online identity for others.
After lots of interesting discussions, we all commented on our class blog (click here to view!)and it was really interesting to read everyone’s comments!
Then to end the session, we thought about our own identity and what we value in each other-we went round the classroom and wrote on everyone’s poster thinking about what we value about their identity. It was a lovely activity and we all felt very happy afterwards!
