School Council’s Trip to The Houses Of Parliament
On Monday 18th November 2019 School Council went to The Houses of Parliament. We learnt that there are two houses, The House of Lords and the House of Commons. It was very interesting to learn that professional specialists in their fields work in the House of Lords. We also learnt MPs in the House of Commons are voted in and there are 650 constituencies. Each constituency’s has it’s own MP.
We also learnt about ‘Parliamentary ping pong bill.’ In the House of Commons they come up with ideas for new laws. Then the bill is sent to the House of Lords where they check the bill. The bill then goes to the House of Commons, but it can still go back and forth. It can only go on for a year maximum. The House of Commons has the power to stop this, if they have had enough they take it to the Queen. The Queen has to sign the bill to implement the bill.
We had a workshop about law and debating. We voted on what we learnt.
We really enjoyed our trip. Thank you to all members of School Council.
