This week is Science Week at St Vincent’s!
As we celebrate togetherness, after a period where isolation was a sad but necessary reality, ‘Connections’ is an apt theme for British Science Week 2023.
Nearly all innovations in science, technology, engineering and maths are built on connections between people; two (or more) heads are better than one, after all! But as well as exploring the importance and joy in connections between individual scientists, research groups and institutions, you could discover the different ways connections appear across all areas of science.
In school, the children have all been taking part in some exciting experiments, exploring the different ways that substances connect to each other, what occurs when they do and how we can change this. A big thank you to Mother Nature Scientists for leading these fascinating workshops.
In you want to continue being scientists at home, CREST have science experiments that you can do with your families at home. I wonder what scientific discoveries you’ll make as a family!
- Be Seen Be Safe (reflective materials)
- A Sticky Problem (comparing properties)
- Sneaky Shadows (light)
- Cheesy Challenge (irreversible changes)
Children have also been asked to make a poster to celebrate this year’s theme. We can’t wait to see their finished posters! The deadline for the competition is Monday 20th March.
This Science lesson was really fun! We got to make slime and do a lot of experiments with Bitty, I feel like I learnt a lot.
I love science and I really enjoyed watching the science experiments as well as making our own slime. I am enjoying Science Week so far and I can’t wait to do more Science.
Thank you to the teachers who organised this fun week ahead.
I like when I saw the elephant toothpaste and when it bursts on the table !!
I really enjoyed when the chemical exploded.
Thank you to the teachers that organised Science Week at school and thank you Professor Bitty to come to school and show us all the science experiments !
First of all I liked all the experiments, but my most favourite was the chemical reaction that created the elephant toothpaste. 🐘😂
I loved Professor Bitty. Thank you SV for organising this science filled day. 👩🔬😀
