Year 6 were very lucky to be invited to Queen’s College to visit their Science laboratories. Last term we learnt about the human circulatory system and so we had two workshops to learn even more about it.

To start, we had to put on our lab coats which made us look (and feel!) like real scientists!

In one workshop we saw a real sheep’s heart. We cut it open to see inside and saw the four chambers.  We could feel which wall was thicker so we knew which side was the left side. If we wanted to, we put gloves on to feel the heat and even put our fingers in the aorta!

In the other workshop, we did a circulatory system circuit! We could measure our heart rate using stethoscopes and our oxygen levels using an oxygen saturation monitor. We looked at some cells under a microscope and a model of the a blocked artery. We also got to experiment with different substances to work out the blood group.

Thank you so much to the teachers at Queen’s College for leading such exciting experiments and investigations.

Year 6, what was your favourite part?
