This week, we had a very exciting science workshop led by Aveea!
Firstly in assembly, we were shown the reaction of vinegar and sodium bicarbonate and we saw how quickly the reaction took place and produced some bubbles. We were then told that our theme for this year’s Science week was time and that in our workshops later we would have to figure out how to solve the reaction down so that we could use the reaction make rockets launch.
We went back to class to have a think about what we could do before it was our turn to take part in the workshop. Mr Patel split us into groups and then asked us to experiment with different materials (paper and card) to test how long it was before the reaction took place. We had to use a spoonful of sodium bicarbonate wrapped in the material and place it into a small beaker and pour 5 ml of vinegar onto it before timing the reaction.
Mr Patel asked us to pick the best material we thought had the slowest reaction time as that would allow us to put the lid on before the reaction happens and launch our rockets. We then headed to the courtyard to test our rockets and see who’s rocket would go the highest. After some very excited countdowns, we watched our rockets launch after the reactions and one even went as high as the Y4 classroom window!
Thank you to Aveea for an amazing science workshop!
It was the best!
