In science, we have been learning about plants!
This topic builds on our learning from Year 1, where we learned about deciduous and evergreen trees and we also learned about the parts of a plant. In this topic, we have revisited the parts of the plant and have been able to explain that roots absorb water and nutrients from the soil and that leaves absorb sunlight. We have been beginning to learn all about what a plant needs to grow successfully. We learnt that plants need soil, water, time, an appropriate temperature, and sunlight. To understand more about where plants come from, we looked at different seeds and also discussed what bulbs are.
To explore our learning, we decided to create an experiment where we would change different aspects of what a plant needs to grow. We decided that we would plant one set of seeds using soil, water, light and warmth. We changed each one of these aspects and had 5 pots in total. Before we could start the experiment, we made predictions about which of the pots would grow the best and which would grow the least, and why. Our seeds for planting were slightly different to usual as we used seeds, that were held within recycled card. We understand that recycling is important to try to protect our planet and that using seeds like this, we are doing what we can to help!
We really enjoyed this experiment and can’t wait to see how the plants grow (or don’t)!
Amazing experiment! Alexandra can’t wait to see the results of the experiment. Great work year 2.
It was really fun to put the soil and the seeds inside the pot and water the plant.
I had fun doing it with everyone on my table.
Well done year 2! You’ve clearly been working extremely hard and I hope you had fun.
Well done everyone . I love hearing about the wonderful work you have been up to x
I loved that lesson, it was really an awesome opportunity for me to work with my table.🌱❤😊
I loved the science experiment. I was very excited to do it when you told us that we are going to do a science project. Thank you so much for our science Miss Forster Adams
I really liked when Miss Forster Adams said we could plant some seeds and I can’t wait to see them grow!
