Year 4 studied some important features of the Jewish faith. We learned about the sacred book of the Jewish tradition – the Torah, including what each of the five books contains and how the book is made and read. We read about the traditions of Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. We talked about ways in which Judaism is similar to and differs from Christianity. Many of the students were surprised to discover that Jesus was Jewish! At the end of our unit, we celebrated by listening to Jewish prayer music and enjoying traditional Jewish foods, including apples and honey (traditional food of Rosh Hashanah) and challah (special Jewish bread). Year 4 enjoyed learning about our Jewish brothers and sisters!
