This week in Reception we have been comparing two countries, the ‘United Kingdom’ and ‘Africa.’ We learnt about different animals that live in the African jungle by looking at different photographs and learning their names. We talked about why these animals live in Africa. We learnt that tropical animals like elephants and lions like warmer temperatures where there is plenty of space to roam around.
In groups, we studied a map of the United Kingdom and a map of Africa. We looked at photographs of jungle animals and British woodland animals. We had a special job of sorting the animals based on which country they live.
We were able to sort the animals correctly and talk about why they live in the United Kingdom or Africa.
We learnt lots of key words today to help us develop our vocabulary.
I loved comparing the ‘United Kingdom’ and ‘Africa and their different animals that live in the African jungle and the ones which leaves in United Kingdom.
Warmer country has a vast variety of animal’s and lions are my favourite I always go to see one in the zoo. In UK red squirrels are my favourite they are so fast.
Interesting fact is Africa is the second largest continent, West to Africa lies the Atlantic Ocean and East of Africa lies the Indian Ocean. On the East of the Americas lies the Atlantic Ocean and the East side of America faces the Pacific Ocean and the Arctic Ocean at the northern end and the Southern Ocean at the southernmost ends.
