This week Year 3 had the opportunity to watch the story of the nativity by the Wintershall Advent Travelling Crib at Lambeth Palace
It was a long journey south of the river but it was definitely worth the effort. We gathered around the advent circle and learned that we were going to delve deeper into the story of the nativity before being given an advent bag which we could add gifts to at every stop on our journey through the story. We started by being taken to see the shepherds who told us their story and introduced us to their actual sheep. We were even allowed to pet the sheep (as long as we used hand gel afterwards!)
Our next stop was to see Mary who told us about her experience of having a baby – but not just any old baby – the baby Jesus! One of the wise men then shared with us his story about the star from the East and the realisation that the prophecy had come to be, and he showed us his gifts of frankinsense, gold and myrrh. Next we met the two donkeys which helped Mary and Joseph travel to Bethlehem and we stopped by Elizabeth’s tent, who described her message from an angel about her son, John. Our mission was to consider how we can spread this message through advent. By then end of it, our advent bags were full with gifts from each stop and we had been given a lot to reflect upon with regards to the nativity story.
We had a really lovely time and a fascinating insight into the perspectives of each character in the Christmas story. Thank you so much to the SVPA for funding this trip and to Wintershall for inviting us on such a special journey to Bethlehem!
