Year 1 had a fantastic time at London’s Sea Life Aquarium.
We all took part in a workshop called ‘Commotion in the Ocean’ where we learnt all about habitats in our oceans and the adaptations needed to survive in each ocean. After having a look at some sea creatures and how their body parts help them to survive, we were all given the chance to create our own sea creature. We had a great discussion about why we chose the body parts we did and all of us created predators!
We then explored the aquarium and saw more than 500 species from around the word, all so unique!
Our first stop was the Shark Reef Encounter. We admired these toothy creatures—ranging from the Bowmouth Guitar Shark (distinctive with its wide body and blunt snout) to the Blacktip Reef Shark with its prominent black-dipped fins—as they glided through the water.
Next, we walked the Shark Walk – a tank-lined glass walkway and pretended we were in the centre of the ocean! Then we continued on to Ice Adventure to check in on a group of playful, white-striped Gentoo Penguins as they frolicked about the freezing Arctic. We also visited the Ray Lagoon to see the flat and spotty rays gliding along. Then we passed by menacing crocodiles and piranhas, and learn about the habitats of gentle seahorses and rare Green Sea Turtles until we reached the playful clownfish and colourful coral at Nemo’s Coral Caves.
Thank you so much to the SVPA for funding this trip and to all the parents who came with us.
