Year 2 had an exciting trip to the Floating Classroom in Paddington, where we traveled along the Regent’s Canal to learn all about the history and geography of our local area.
The trip began with a boat ride along the canal, where we explored how this important waterway was once used to transport goods around London. Our guide explained the history of the Regent’s Canal, which was built in the early 19th century to link the Grand Union Canal to the River Thames, helping to move heavy cargo like coal and grain. As we sailed along the water, we saw how the canal helped shape the development of the city.
One of the highlights of the trip was dressing up as Victorian canal boat workers! We got to step into the shoes of people who worked on the boats and learned about the challenging work they did to keep the canals running smoothly. The children were able to imagine life during the Victorian era and understand the important role the canals played in shaping the growth of London.
This trip was a wonderful way to bring geography and history to life. The children came away with a greater understanding of the local area and its rich history, and we look forward to more learning adventures in the future!
A big thank you to all the parents who supported us on the day! Your help made the trip possible, and we really appreciate your time and enthusiasm in making the experience extra special for the children.
I really enjoyed when a man climbed to the top of the boat and took a photo of us in our Victorian clothes while we were at the floating classroom. We learned how to use our legs to navigate through a tunnel by legging. It was an amazing trip!
I really loved our trip to the Floating Classroom!
My favourite bit was when the man went on top of the roof of the boat and took a photograph of us in our Victorian clothes. When I looked at the photo on the blog I thought it was really funny. We also learnt about something called legging that they used to get through tunnels 200 years ago in Little Venice. We even had a go of doing legging ourselves, but we only did it on a moving plank of wood inside the boat. You wouldn’t want to be doing it for real!
When we were eating lunch, we saw Monkey Valley, in London Zoo.
I was partners with Nika, it was an excellent trip and I hope we can go again!
Thank you so much for our wonderful trip to the Floating classroom.
I had so much fun.
My favourite part was when Zeyn dressed up as a girl in victorian times.
It was so much fun!
