We have recently been studying Food and Farming in the UK, and as part of that, we discovered which fruits were seasonal to the UK. We learnt all about why some plants thrive in our temperate climate, and why we have to look to other countries for other foods such as mangoes!
We were so excited to find out that we would be baking, using a seasonal fruit, alongside our parents and other adults. Before our exciting afternoon, we looked carefully at our success criteria, which meant that we had to decide which fruits would be best for a muffin, based upon their texture and taste. Some of us knew that rhubarb might be a little too sour, never mind gooseberries! Individually, we designed our perfect muffin, based on our own preferences. Some of us even decided we would love to have two fruits in our mixtures.
For our creativity afternoon, we discovered that we would be baking blueberry muffins. We were really looking forward to working with adults from home too. As a class, we showed excellent listening skills and we made sure to stand well away from the ovens as that was the responsibility of the adults to look after. We were careful to follow each step with precision and accuracy. We really impressed our teacher with how well we worked together as a group. We were so grateful to have some adults to help us to beat the mixture as this was quite tricky. We needed it to be pale and fluffy before we could bake with it!
As we waited, with baited breath, for our muffins to bake, we thought hard about what went well during our activity. Lots of us thought that everything went well, but we might have chosen another fruit if we were to do it again.
We would like to say a big thank you to all of the adults that could come along to help us with our baking. We were really proud of how well our muffins turned out! If any other year groups wanted to give our recipe a try, we hope that you enjoy baking them as much as we did! https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/blueberry-muffin
Well done for working so hard, Year 2. I am so impressed with your teamwork skills!
