This morning, Year 5&6 got to watch The Riot Act show which taught them all about road safety.
We met Jay and Alex who performed skits about two children growing up and going to school, sharing different situations that they face.
We thought about how to have a good night’s sleep so that we wake up ready for the day and not rushing, including leaving time for breakfast. They taught us about how to walk safely, including knowing different routes in case the road to school is blocked. We also talked about how to cycle safely, including wearing high-vis, having lights and wearing a helmet.
Alex went on the bus and was very rude to the bus driver. We thought about the choices he made and how we could be better passengers.
They taught us The Green Cross Code – Stop, Look, Listen and Think. This is a useful thing to remember while we’re travelling to keep us safe.
We played a game that made us think about how we sometimes copy or follow our friends. This is called peer influence. Peer influence is more subtle than peer pressure and isn’t always a bad thing. But we do need to remember to make our own choices rather than copying someone else, even if they’re our friend.
A lot of their advice reminded us to focus while we are travelling around and to not be distracted by music or phones. We also thought about the friends that we hang out with and how keeping ourselves safe is the most important thing. The only person who can keep us safe is ourself, so we need to try our best to make sensible choices.
This workshop looks cool! 👌
Thank you for a fun show about road safety. I enjoyed mostly the story about Alex and Jay and you taught us so much and played fun games in some parts. Now I know a lot more thank you for coming to our school today!!!
