In our Religious Education lessons, we have been thinking about the topic of Pentecost: Witnesses. We began our topic by debating the question: ‘Is it better not to be a witness?’ We discussed the idea that being a witness and speaking out can often require courage to make the right choice. Sometimes being a witness can be upsetting, difficult or even dangerous. Everyone contributed and at the end of the debate we had a vote. The majority felt that even when it is a challenge, it is better to be a witness.
“In my opinion, I think we should be a witness to set younger people an example and more, to become heroes and heroines. In the Bible, Jesus said when he comes again we would like everyone to be a witness.” CC
“I would be a witness because it will help people. If someone was getting hurt or worse, wouldn’t you help them or tell someone?” SC
“If you are a witness and tell the truth, it makes you feel like you have done the right thing.” ABM
“In my opinion, it’s better to be a witness because you could resolve a problem. As a Christian it is the right thing to do.” TP
