Year 5 & 6 Girls Football

Today, 10 girls in Year 5&6 entered the Westminster Girls Football Tournament, representing St Vincent’s fabulously.

Once we arrived at Paddington Recreation Ground, Miss Lee led the team in a warm up before our first team talk. We thought about where each of us play best and how we could use different strategies during our matches. 

In the group stages we had three matches to play. We drew our first two matches 0-0 and so were very keen for a goal in our third. Thankfully we won our third match 2-0. This placed us in the semi finals against St Joseph’s. We were all very nervous for it but played brilliantly. After the game ended 1-1, we had to face the dreaded penalties. Our goal keeper was superb and saved every goal, taking us through to the finals. 

In the final, we were against Pimlico. We’d seen them play earlier and knew we were in for a challenge. The game ended 0-0 which meant we had to do penalties again. After a quick regroup and team chat, we were ready for the very tense round of penalties. You can watch the video below to see how tense it was and our utter joy at winning!!

Whilst we were incredibly proud to come first, we were also proud of the team’s excellent sportsmanship throughout the day. They always went up to shake hands with the other team, thank the umpires, and even kindly console members of the other team after a game. Such a credit to St Vincent’s.
