This week is Art Week!
We have been visited both virtually and in person by artists from the October Gallery. We have been learning all about Rafael Trelles, and his work with pattern and texture.
As a class we worked with oil pastels, wax crayons, powder paint and charcoal to create different patterns and looked at ways we could make marks to represent sounds of animals in the rainforest!
The first workshop was completed on the carpet as a class, it was such a fun way to explore art and mark making all together! First we drew with wax crayons in the motions of flapping birds, buzzing bees and hissing snakes. Next we layered our marks with paint, and then used tools to mark make over the paint for extra texture.
Reception worked fantastically as a class and listened superbly to all the instructions they were given. We learnt so many new ways to mark make and build layers of marks to create texture!
The next day, the class worked hard to create their own rainforest creature, and painted beautiful trees with large leaves and even fruit from the rainforest!
We had so much fun learning from the artists, and cannot wait for the children’s art work to be seen at the auction 🙂
Thank you so much for organising the visit of an artist especially during this time. It made a big impression on the children!
