Today, Year 1 had the exciting opportunity to visit the National Maritime Museum. During this trip, we got to step into the role of explorers and search for treasure. This term in history, we’ve been learning about famous explorers and their contributions to history. It was an amazing day filled with discoveries about new explorers and some of the treasures explorers have uncovered.
We started our day by walking to Bond Street Station and taking the Tube to Bank. This was our first time riding the Tube in Year 1, so it was very exciting! Once we arrived at Bank Station, we switched to the DLR, a driverless train that offers amazing views of the River Thames and iconic landmarks in London. It was a long journey but it was certainly worth it.
When we arrived at the museum, we split into smaller groups and started our trail. We explored various galleries and searched for hidden treasures. Along the way, we talked about how treasures weren’t just silver and gold, but also items like coffee, sugar, and medicine. The children discovered a variety of exciting treasures, which they added to their very own treasure chests.
Next, we reunited and made our way to the All Hands Children’s Gallery. This interactive exhibit lets you step aboard a ship and experience life as an explorer. The children had the chance to dress up, cook meals, steer the ship, and search for pirates. They absolutely loved this part of the museum, as it gave them the chance to really feel like explorers.
After a busy morning, the children were hungry, so we went outside to have lunch. The sun was shining, and we found the perfect spot to sit and relax. The children enjoyed their delicious lunches and loved spending time with their friends.
After lunch, we made our way to the Cove Playground, an explorer and sea-themed area that was incredibly exciting. The children had a great time playing and truly felt like explorers. They had lots of fun, and it was the perfect way to end our busy but thrilling day.
Well done Year 1 you all worked so hard today and tried your very best and became true explorers, thank you also to all of the amazing adults and helpers who made today possible!
