This week was Enterprise Week, and Year 4 became a class company called Magnets Forever-‘We’ll help you stick to it’!
Our aim this week was to design, create, market and sell (for as much profit as possible!) our wonderful woodland magnets!
We began the week by brainstorming some names for our company and had some brilliant ideas! Magnets Forever was our catchiest ideas and seemed to suit our company best. Then it was time to design our logo, come up with a slogan…
Later, we learnt more about persuasive advertisements and even had a go at writing one ourselves! It was really fun to practice using some of the techniques that we see and hear in advertising everyday use such as alliteration, rhetorical questions and emotive language to persuade as many people as possible to buy our product.

In Mathematics we did some market research by thinking about what theme our magnets could have to sell as many as possible such as Christmas, popular book characters and woodland animals. We used a tally chart and asked as many children in our class as possible about their preference. Woodland animals was the clear winner! We then used the data from the tally chart to create a colourful bar graph to display our results.
Later in the week it was time to practice adding and subtracting and solving problems involving money. Enterprise week is all about learning how to handle and work with money just like in the business world! As a challenge we played a ‘Speedy Spending’ board game where we used plastic coins and notes to spend and earn money. The winner was the one who had the most left at the end!
We also spent time filling in our Enterprise Week booklet, designing our products and making prototypes. We then ordered from all of the other classes after we had watch their adverts.
On Thursday we spent the whole day making our orders and organising them for each class. We took time on Friday to reflect on our experiences of Enterprise Week in English and working out our total profit (remembering to give back the money Miss Coleman lent us!) in Maths.
Enterprise Week has taught us a lot about of British Values, how to be fair and the process of democracy through voting and sticking with the vote of the majority, how to use our Learning Powers (resilience, reciprocity, resourcefulness and reflectiveness) as well as how to run a business/company to create a profit.
Thank you to Miss Carruthers for organising such a brilliant week and for all of the wonderful things we bought.
I loved it, it was amazing! I hope all the other classes did too.
