To enhance our ‘People Who Help Us’ topic, Reception visited Euston Fire Station this afternoon. We met some firefighters who showed us around the fire station and talked to us all about their important job as a firefighter.
First of all, we looked at the firefighter’s uniform and they showed us how quickly they have to put on their uniform and get ready for an emergency. We looked at their yellow helmets and a protective head mask that the firefighters have to wear to help them breathe when they need to go into the fire.
After that, we got to look at the fire engine! We looked at all of the important equipment inside and talked about what it is used for. We each had a turn at sitting in the fire engine and tried the big helmets on, they were very heavy!
Next, we had a tour of the fire station. We looked in the watch room. This is an important room where the special alarm goes off when a call comes in. There is a giant map on the wall to help the fire fighters locate where they need to get to. We also looked in the kitchen area where the firefighters eat their big meals to give them energy and we got to see the special pole where the fire fighters slide down to get to an emergency quickly.
Finally we each had a turn at spraying the hose! We had to aim to knock the teddy off the chair with the water! It was so fun!
A special thank you to all of the team at Euston Fire Station for showing us around today – it was a fantastic way to enhance our learning!
It was so much fun at Euston fire station. It was fun spraying the water from the hose, because we had to knock the teddy bear down to the ground and push the chair away with the water. 😊🦄
