What a week it’s been! We have been working really hard in our Curriculum lessons this week. We have moved on from the Great Fire of London to focus on our geography, in relation to London. We have learnt about the four countries that make up the United Kingdom, learning about each capital city and have then been able to locate these on a map – we even used a key! We have also used atlases really successfully to locate the seas and oceans that surround the UK. We worked well in partners, to support and help one another with this task. We shocked our teachers with how well we could then place these onto our very own maps. On top of all of this, we have also been learning about compass directions. In our PE lesson, we used these directions as a warm up activity. We had to run to whichever direction the coach shouted. This helped us to understand our understanding of our local area in terms of direction and it certainly made sure that were properly warmed up, ready for our PE. We were exhausted! We then came back to class and looked plotting different shapes onto a grid, using compass directions.
We have also started our Design and Technology topic, where we have been tasked with creating our own version of a famous London landmark. Today, we started this task by considering the shapes and materials we would need to be able to successfully complete this challenge. We have worked really well in our groups to share ideas, ensuring to take everyone’s opinions into consideration. We have then labelled our designs, and have begun to discuss our ideas in writing, making sure that we have a success criteria to follow. We know that our model has to be 3-D and has to be able to stand on it’s own. We are really excited to start building!
Well done for another brilliant week, Year 2. You are all working so hard and are becoming more and more resilient learners as the weeks go by. Keep it up!
