This week, we learnt about the artist Mary Delany. We learnt that Mary Delany was an English artist known for her ‘paper mosaics.’ She was very interested in flowers and many of her works were pictures of flowers made of tiny pieces of coloured cut paper.
We talked about what the word ‘mosaics’ means and tried to find the tiny pieces shown in some of Mary’s artwork. We shared our ideas about what we could see in each flower including the colours we could see and the patterns too.
To build on our understanding of flowers, we used real flowers and took them all apart. We recapped on key vocabulary we had learnt about flowers including petal, stem and leaf. We then experimented with collage by using lots of little parts of the flowers to construct our own flower mosaic. We built up our flowers carefully by using lots of tiny pieces.
We were able to express our own ideas through our artwork and talk about how we created our flowers.
Your artwork is fantastic! 👏
