This term, Year 6 have been given the wonderful opportunity to take part in a special Design Technology project called ‘Manufacto’.
Year 6 have a weekly lesson with Emma, a specialist craftsperson, supported by Camilla, who is studying Design, where they are learning all the skills involved in woodwork, including lots of opportunities for practising real life Maths skills as well.
At the end of the project, everyone in Year 6 will have made their own wooden lamp, which they can take home to keep.
So far, in only four lessons, everyone has carefully measured, cut and sanded five wooden slats and a handle. We have been using saws, mallets and chisels safely and competently. We have also learned how to measure and draw a pentagon and find its centre. Our lamps are starting to take shape now and we are really excited for each new step.
Later in the term, we will also get the opportunity to visit Hermès as well as Emma’s studio. There will also be an opportunity for all parents and carers to come and view the finished products.
We will post again when we are finished to show you our finished lamps.

I had so much fun cutting the wood .My favourite part was sanding it down.
It was so awesome that we actually got to use dangerous tools (safely of course).
