Reception had a great morning listening and learning new skills whilst taking part in an art workshop!
Laura from the October Gallery came in and talked about the work of Laurence Lowry. Laura showed us lots of his famous paintings, and discussed the setting and scene portrayed in the paintings. We then looked closer at the people in his paintings, their shape, form and colour.
Laura pointed out that all of the people in Lowry’s paintings were ‘match stick’ people, very simple line drawings that were then layered. We practiced our own match stick people together first, being careful to draw each part of the person carefully. Then Laura showed us how to layer our people with accessories, such as hats, umbrellas or clothes. Reception worked really hard at this, making sure to follow all of Laura’s instructions carefully.
Reception then used a background setting of Lowry’s paintings, and added their match stick people onto this. The class produced great work and were so respectful to Laura throughout the session.
