During our maths lessons, Reception have been learning all about money!
We have had a shop set up inside the classroom for our maths lessons, the children had £5 each and could choose a number of items – learning about how different things may cost different amounts, some being cheaper or more expensive than others.
We then had a book shop outside! Reception were the shop keepers, dressing up and selling their books to their peers in Foundation Stage.
It was great to see Reception all using every day language related to money, such as
“I have 5 pound coins! What can I buy?”
“I dont have any cash” “You can pay by card if you like?”
“That book is 2 pounds and 10 pennies”
“How much money is this book?”
“I haven’t paid yet!”
They all had great fun exploring this themselves, and leading the creative play. Everyone was taking turns with the tills and handing their customers money, so they could pay!
How awesome! Maybe time for a little pocket money to practice some more at the shops over the weekend:)
