Today Reception visited Regent’s Park for a special sensory exploration of the seasons as part of our ‘Seasons’ topic.
When we arrived at Regent’s Park we met James from the Field Studies Council who was going to run our workshops. We then had a snack and were then raring to go. James told us that we were going to use our senses today (sight, smell, touch, hearing and taste) to find some signs of spring and explore nature.
For our first activity, we used our sense of sight to search for worms in the grass. We found lots of worms and learnt that brighter colours are easier to see in the ground than darker colours. Afterwards, we used our sense of hearing to listen out for different sounds we could hear in the park.
Next, we went into the wooded area and made magic potions using mud, water, leaves and twigs. We added a special magic ingredient which made the potion smell wonderful! It was a great way for us to use our sense of smell and smell the nature in our potions.
After our second activity it was time to use our sense of taste during lunch!
In the afternoon we used lots of our senses as we went on a nature treasure hunt. We looked for different leaves, flowers and twigs to stick to our special sticky pads and made lots of beautiful nature collages. For our last activity we were given some coloured cards and it was our challenge to find something in the park which matched the colours we were given.
It was a very fun day and we enjoyed exploring the seasons at Regents Park. We got the opportunity to see so many things which are blooming in spring such as blossom, daffodils, crocuses, leaves and best of all some warm spring sunshine…
Thank you to the SVPA for funding our trip and to all of the parents who helped us out today. We really appreciate you!
What was your favourite part of our trip?
