Year 6 were very lucky to be invited to Queen’s College to visit their Science laboratories. Last term we learnt about the human circulatory system and so we had two workshops to learn even more about it.

To start, we had to put on our lab coats which made us look (and feel!) like real scientists!

In one workshop we saw a real sheep’s heart. We cut it open to see inside and saw the four chambers.  We could feel which wall was thicker so we knew which side was the left side. If we wanted to, we put gloves on to feel the heat and even put our fingers in the aorta!

In the other workshop, we did a circulatory system circuit! We could measure our heart rate using stethoscopes and our oxygen levels using an oxygen saturation monitor. We looked at some cells under a microscope and a model of the a blocked artery. We also got to experiment with different substances to work out the blood group.

Thank you so much to the teachers at Queen’s College for leading such exciting experiments and investigations.

Year 6, what was your favourite part?

We studied the circulatory system in queens college it was really fun , they let us to touch a lamb heart so cool!

  3. When we touched the HEART it felt so soft

We felt inside the right and left ATRIUM and right and Left VENTRICLE the right side closes tightly around your finger but it was still very fun.

  4. This was a wonderful experience,
I learned that there are 4 chambers in a heart: the left and right atrium and ventricle.
My favorite part was when we touched the HEART!!!!!!!!

  5. I found it really fun because we got to touch a lamb heart.

  6. My favourite part was when we got to touch a sheep’s heart. I also enjoyed all the activities that had to do with blood, heart which was all about the circulatory system.

  7. I learnt that there are 4 chambers in a heart such as the right and left ventricle and the right and left atrium. This trip was really fun !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. My favourite part of the trip to Queens College was when we touched a lambs heart!

  9. My favourite part of Queens Collage was when we were able to touch and see a sheeps heart.I got to see how a sheeps heart looks like!
    It was soo intresting!!!

  10. My favourite part was touching a lambs heart and I learned that you get blocked circulation from eating too much animal fat.

This was a very fun experience to do.I learned about the human body and how it works.

  12. I learnt that about the circulatory system and how similar the sheep’s heart is to us.

  13. I learnt all about a lamb’s heart🫀, we even got to touch inside it. I also learnt about what happens if you smoke🚬 and what it looks like. We looked into a microscope🔬 and used a stethoscope🩺. It was really fun.

  14. I loved this trip. My favourite part was when we got to hear our own heart beating.
We learned that the left part of our heart is thicker than the right one.

  15. It was so fun , but when we touched the lambs heart the artery squished my finger .

  16. I felt really scared to touch a lambs heart

  17. I really enjoyed Queen’s College because we got to feel a heart and saw the four chambers of the heart we also found out how it looks like.

My favourite part was touching the lambs heart, it was pretty scary but in the end I found it very fun.

I learnt about the chambers of the heart such as the right atrium, left atrium, right ventricle, and the left ventricle. My favourite part was probably touching the lambs heart because it was a real model so it was easier to learn as if you had a heart infront of you. It felt very interesting as I have not touched a heart before.

  20. It was so fun learning about the heart and what it dose like it pumps blood around the body.My most favourite part of the trip is when I touched the heart and it was so fun.I wish I could go again.
