In English, we have been reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears by Emma Chichester Clark. We are all quite familiar with this tale and feel confident when it comes to the finer details. This week, however, we have been tasked with helping the police to find Goldilocks! To do this, we have had to think very hard about powerful adjectives that help to describe her as a person, in terms of her personality and what she looks like.
To create a wanted poster, we needed to read a model version which included some great adjectives, as well as words such as “beware” which we noticed can be used to have an impact on the reader. We thought about the purpose of our writing and we knew that we had to warn people about Goldilocks and her antics, because she had caused havoc for the Three Bears. We used our knowledge of the text to back-up our claims when we described her as a disobedient and monstrous little girl.
To prepare for our writing, we took on the role of police detectives and held a press-conference. We took turns to interview one another, explaining to the interviewer why it was so important that we find her. We had to use our powerful adjectives within this role play and make sure that the listener was going to be on the look out for her. A few of us got to be interviewed in front of our class and we even had a camera person to film us! Once we had taken part in this activity, we interviewed our teacher and we asked lots of great questions to make sure that she included all of the detail that we needed to know. We came back together as a class to complete a version of a wanted poster together, where we shared all of our wonderful ideas and vocabulary. Finally, we wrote our own versions of the wanted poster and showed off our brilliant writing style, and created incredibly influential pieces of work that the real police would surely be proud of!
